Honestly, I love living in Canada because we do get quite a few long weekends and employers tend to be a bit more generous on holidays (though not as generous as in Europe!). Monday was a long weekend here and I still have a few weeks of holidays to use up before the end of the year. The Babe was on some climbing epic so I had a lovely, lazy weekend at home doing ....well, pretty much nothing. Bliss. I thought I would share one of my mornings in pictures with you - even the cat enjoyed being lazy.
I am progressing on my Annikki - I have 3/4 of the back done and 3/4 of both fronts. I had to stop at that point because I am stuck in the pattern and need to go to a drop-in knitting class to get past there. I am also working on some cable socks - one is almost done.
I have been doing a lot of photography, but right now I am a bit flummoxed. I am trying to capture something in a certain way and in a certain style and it is not working - the pictures are not turning out the way I want them to. I don't know if any of you have the same issues, however, I am frustrated by it. It's like I can't transfer what I see and feel through the lens to the image. Composition is really hard...I look at other people's photos and see something that is missing in mine. Oh well, I am going to a photo show tonight - maybe some of the pros will give me some pointers.
Hope you all have a great weekend.

I have that problem with my photography all of the time. I must say though, even before I read what you wrote I was going to comment on how beautiful your newest photographs are!
take good care, nicole
Lovely to have some time just for you and the cat seems to have apprecaited it too - what a beauty.
Raina, your photos are so lovely always that it amazes me that you are having composition issues! Hope you found your inspiration
Your cat is just adorable - and your photographs are gorgeous.
I'm unabashedly crap at photography, but perhaps it's like most creative things - you always spot flaws, and things you'd change rather than realising that what you're making and taking is absolutely fab.
Aww honey, your photos are fantastic! I wish my photography was even half as good.
Hope you work out what it is that is missing.
Have a great weekend too and I love lazy days! :)
Your morning photos are lovely...capturing just that right mix of laziness and fun play...and your kitty is a beauty! I often feel as you do about photography. I see something, but it's as if the camera won't take what I'm seeing or how I'm seeing it. I used to be terrible at taking photos. I used to take what DH & I jokingly call "asphalt photos" you know the one where you're on holiday and there's more foreground that the actually thing to be photographed--LOL! I have learn a lot since and still am all the time. Composition and light are fun to play with. Mostly when I take photos I try to capture the soul, the supreme essence of what I'm looking at. And sometimes even my own soul gets mixed in--photographic bliss, I guess! But tell us about this photo show and what you learned and what made big impressions and inspirations! Happy weekend, my friend ((HUGS))
Ah, that does look relaxing and the perfect way to spend a morning. And I think your phtotography is lovely.
i love lazy. i want a lazy day too. can you send me one?
i love the photos. i detect a hint of autum. i'm not sure why. summer is still scorching away here so maybe it was wishiful thinking.
what lovely days you've had!
i know what you mean. i feel like i'm always taking the same photos over and over again. i'm comfortable in that same set of views and everytime i try something new...bleh!
i love that top photo with the knitting and roses!
What a lovely long weekend, the photos are beautiful. All your photos are beautiful.
Mine are usually all crap :^)
It she a tabby point Siamese? She looks so relaxed I just want to reach out my hand and stroke her.
I love taking pictures and Tony often teases me for taking so many each time we go out, but I just go with the flow and snap away as something catches my eye. later I can delete the photos I don't like or I have messed up. My asthma inhaler gives me the shakes so sometimes I can't help but mess up a photo. But the beauty of digital is I can review and try again. Your pictures are beautiful, so relax and enjoy taking and reviewing your photos. Then you might find you achieve what you want. Happy snapping! Jane x
I love long weekends! Yours sound sgreat.
Don't lose sigh! You can check the Shutter Sisters and ask for help maybe (?).
I love your table. I have a pretty similar one.

I'll be checking your blog. I like it!
Well, what to add after all these comments. Your pictures ARE beautiful. I can share my own experience with photography: When I want to capture atmosphere of the scene, no objects in particular, just the feeling, I usually fail because: 1. I am not fast enough to press the button and the scene disappears 2. I just cant get it in the objective, it is not there. But sometimes it happens and it turns out OK, but its like 1 of the 50 times.
Hi Raina, I love the colours of the roses againts the colours of the knitting which seems to be coming along fine - hopefully the class will help you with the hitch. I completely understand your feelings about the photo. Sometimes when I write or draw I sometimes feel that way - as if they're somthing that I'm not quite able to capture that others can. I try to remember that it's all a part of the creative process and of course not to compare myself with others because there's something special bout my own which I'm sure goes the same for you. I hope it turns out well,
Dy
How lucky are you?! sounds like a wonderful long weekend :)
I would be happy if I could just get my photos to be clear!
I love your photos they're gorgeous! The flowers and knitting needles are great, and your cat is just precious!
Thanks for the encouragement. Design software is testing my patience!!! :)
I am just useless when it comes to taking photos. I'm content for them to be clear and not blurred. Anything else is a bonus. If I get the head and the feet, genius.
i am so jealous! it's only tuesday and i'm ready for the weekend already. and i'm seriously considering taking a photography class just for fun.
i hope your exhibition was good and that you are enjoying your long weekend, your cat looks so sweet!!!
those photo's are lovely, what brand and model of camera do you have?
Gill
BEAUTIFUL photos! I certainly feel like you do - that there's something missing in my photos. But, I certainly can't see that anything is missing in yours -- I love your pictures!
well, despite your reservations, i love coming to your blog to see your images. the colours are amazing and they were the first thing that really "got me" on my first visit to rainingsheep.
i do feel your frustration though, i think van gogh would concur.
Ah! i love long holidays myself... and i live in europe:) but was born in Canada!
oh Selvage... i love that mag!
Raina, I love your photos very much, in fact that was my first thought when I came onto your post! I know what you mean about wanting to capture a certain image though. Where are you from in Alberta?
Maryxo
I think your photo's are fabulous. There seems to be a lovely colour 'cast' across them - I think someone else mentioned that they look 'autumnal' and I think I'd agree. I especially love the roses. It's very frustrating when you have an idea of what you want to achieve but can't quite capture it. I'm sure you'll get to where you want to be with it. So nice to have some time for yourself too. We are off on holiday next week and I've considered sending the rest of the family off without me so I can stay home and have some peace and quiet! I don't think that would go down too well though!
Yay Canada!!! We just got back from Whistler, BC and I already miss it so much! Such a lovely country you have! Oh and I need to tell you that I love your sweet photos so there!
I also have issues with my photography, quite often. There's a way that you can see something that you want to capture, but it always seems to evade the lens. I think it happens to the best of them! However, I think the photo in this post of your cat is just lovely! :-) I'm such a sucker for cats.
It's been awhile, but I'm glad to see you had a good weekend at home. Those lazy days always make me feel so much better!
I think we are too hard on ourselves. I go through many of those moments where I feel like I should just give up taking pictures because I'm not good enough...not able to capture what I see...not able to take shots like other folks. I think it's sort of human to have those doubts. I, myself, really enjoy following your uploads on Flickr...I think you DO have a unique eye and an unique style. I like to 'feel' photos...and almost every photo I see of yours resonates with me in some way...and I think that's the highest compliment I can give.
such wonderful images and your sense of colour is really brilliant!i love visiting to see what you come up with!the knitting is gorgeous and the flowers...
