Please tell me that the above does look like an elephant. I am continuing my 'learning to sew' journey and I thought I would make this elephant pattern that came with a bag of fiber stuffing I bought for my Christmas ornaments. It was supposed to be a pillow-like thing made up of two pieces. I wanted it more three dimensional so I devised a bottom piece to separate the legs into four and make the elephant be able to stand. Meh! Don't know what I think. I doubt I will be making any more stuffed creatures...I am more of a 'function' person.
I most definitely subscribe to the quote by William Moris (he generated the arts and crafts movement) "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful". If I make something it needs to function: cover a table, cover me...you know what I mean. I also made that bird whale thing on the bottom of the picture..... WTF? It is supposed to be a bird...looks like a whale, now my cat plays with it.
Happy weekend.

The elephant was definitely recognizable - and very cute! The bird, however... I was thinking it was a seal... but a great cat toy! I, too, have had many frustrating moments with a sewing machine. That's why I work with paper!
Definitely looks like an Elephant to me. I think these stuffed toys make lovely baby and toddler gifts.
The cat toy looks like a seal to me too.
Happy sewing!!
Oops, sent that too soon. Your elephany could function as a nifty pin cushion.
I could definitely see an elephant in the first one and a bird in the second and it was not until you mention a whale that I thought "otter". They are both very cute!! Much better that whatever I would do with a sewing machine!!
With that fabric, that has to be the coolest elephant [heffalump?!] in the jungle!
I immediately saw an elephant.
xoxo
Definitely a very adorable and funky elephant!
i got the elephant. the second i thought was a seal. with a moustache?
love that quote. i agree wholeheartedly, but need to remember it more. especially while thrift shopping and finding treasures i just have to have...
The elephant looks fine, just like an elephant! Its frustrating sewing, I find I have ideas in my head but they don't work in practice!! I got given the Readers Dugest book of sewing for christmas and that looks like a wonderful resource.
definately elephant, super cute elephant..looking at your photos i think you have a great eye and good taste..don't be hard on your creations because they are beautiful..really!
the elephant is an elephant, it's the first thing i thought before reading the post... so it is a very coloured elephant, and lovely.
the bird is so warm, that eye is so real, well done!!! i can sew a bit, you inspiring me to try again!
Happy weekend to you, my dear.
Look at you go. It looks like an elephant to me. You are so darn creative.
Oh but the elephant is adorable, you did a great job and the the bird. You are being too hard on yourself.
Hey cute fabric on that elephant, wherever did you get it from?! :)
Going three dimensional can be quite a journey, huh.
I like the bird/whale, and I am sure my kitten would like it too.
I had forgotten how energetic kitties are....
Of course that's an elephant, well, it looks like an 'elephant' in that it's very elephant like in appearance. (smack me)
Personally, I'm completely charmed and smitten with the wee beast (I have this soul deep passion for elephants... as well as all things to do with the Arts and Crafts).
It's a bird. :^)
I think both creatures are fab and very recognisable. I think you've done a great job!
I know what you mean about the 'functional' aspect though.
I think making toys is quite challenging therefore if I was to make an elephant, it would barely look unrecognisable. I can recognise yours perfectly well and it's cute.
p.s does your elephant have a name? Njobvu would be what I'd call it!!!!
That is a beautiful elephant. And a very bird like bird. Remember beauty comes in many guises!
to me the elephant looks exactly as an elephant and the bird as a bird - i have no doubt!
Have a good week!
Oh you did make me laugh - thank you. The elephant is a perfectly lovely elephant - and well done you for devising the legs thing - I couldn't do that! The bird is cute - so glad your cat loves him.
x
Ilove it and yes!!
it totally looks like an elephant! i love it :)
You are being way too hard on yourself! That totally looks like an elephant and is really just too cute. And your bird looks like a bird. Whale never came to my thoughts until you put it in there! I applaud your exploration of sewing!
It so looks like an elephant. Great fabric choice too.
You're SO funny! I'm a function person too -- or at least a gift person -- if it can't serve a function for me, it will be a gift LOL. And, it definitely DOES look like an elephant!
Easily IDed that as an elephant - so either you are doing just fine at the sewing or your photography skills are extra sharp. it's a win any way you slice it ;)
Not only does it look like an elephant, it looks like a TERRIFIC elephant! I totally adore it.
Oh, that is definitely an elephant, Raina! And is he ever cute...You did a wonderful job on this!! And the bird looks like a bird to me--Honest! :o) I've never made softie toys before, so I applaud and admire your new adventures in this kind of sewing. Hope you'll try more...Thanks so much for stopping in to join in on my gift giveaway happening this week--great to see you! :o) We're trying to keep warm...especially with a good 12-14 inches snow outside *GASP!* Happy week, my friend ((HUGS))

well done -i love the fabric too!
I see a colourful elephant... and let me tell you that anybody that sews has my total admiration :)
I so admire that you are learning to sew. I need to do the same. These definitely look exactly like what they are! And they are very cute. But I'm more like you. If I can't use it or don't love it, out it goes...
he looks like an ADORABLE elephant!
i say that's a mighty cute elephant.
i like to make useful things, but i really do enjoy making softies for the 'how should i make this?' factor (i rarely use a pattern when making toys).
It's an adorable elephant.
yes, it looks like an elephant and yes, it looks like a bird. in fact, before i even started reading the post, i thought to myself...i want that little elephant (that's some of my fave fabric ever!) and then i saw the bird and thought, i wish i knew how to make things like that...i love it.
Of course it looks like an elephant!! Cute!
Rainia, your Elephant is most definately recognisable and she's so cute. i love her flowery material. Your bird looks good too, not a whale though. jane x
