autumn

I am ready to accept that autumn is here. My sister bought me a cute bird bath on Vancouver Island and I was all prepared to put it outside when I spied all the leaves dotting the lawn and decided that perhaps its best to wait until next summer. I collected some drying lavender and bee balm to capture the smell of summer and bring it indoors for a few more days.

The weather turned this afternoon - the sun disappeared and the wind picked up creating spinning funnels of twigs, leaves and bits of grass. I celebrated the changing season by cooking a meal my sister suggested as I was leaving her house today: roasted chicken breast topped with caramelized red onions, fennel and diced apples coupled with some roasted red baby potatoes. It's a perfect meal for an autumn day, especially when accompanied by a great, light tasting red wine.

Have a great weekend everyone.

I miss that lovely cooling off period up north before winter sets in. It's still 90 degrees and HUMID here!
That sounds like a very tasty meal!

We're supposed to get some cooler weather down here, but I'm not holding my breath. lol It usually doesn't really cool off until after Thanksgiving.

The meal sounds delicious. The hubby does one with homemade applesauce, seared pork tenderloin, and sweet potatoes. Yum!

That meal sounds amazing! Glad to hear you are embracing autumn...hopefully it'll last for awhile before your cold winter hits! Take to the river on a run and enjoy it!

The leaves here have already turned and as you walk along the wind swirls the leaves along - they almost look like they are all connected by invisible thread.

Sounds like a delicious weekend, Raina...especially the wine. ;o) LOVE that sweet bird bath, a very lovely gift--and something to look forward to using next year. It's grown chilly here--definitely sweater weather! Happy Day ((HUGS))

As always, your pictures are beautiful Raina -- love those adorable little birdies. Your autumn dinner sounds wonderful -- the blustery winds arrived here today, and if I hadn't had to work, we would have had a very similar dinner which just says fall and winter to me. Roasted chicken is already on the menu for Friday, when I have the day off -- yipee!

We're having a wonderful start to autumn here and I feel it's my favourite season - but really what I love are the seasons and the differences they bring to my life, like new meals, that sounds so delicious, so for now autumn is definitely my favourite season.

i've got that bird bath!
although birds never bath in it, millie (cat) uses it as a outside water bowl.
