the antler debate

So....in our home minimalism rules...at least, that is the Babe's mantra. I definitely lean to the minimalist side when it comes to home decor as well, with mid-century modern being generally the direction I go. But, the core of my soul definitely sings the boho chic song. I love patchwork pillows, flea market finds, retro 40's and 50's 'stuff', old furniture mixed with new furniture. When I was single, my space most definitely reflected that side of me. For the past five years, I share the environment and Babe does get some say, and well, I am not allowed to put a fake antler-headed-deer thing on my dining room wall. I found this really cool, very fake deer head and the Babe put his foot down. No deer head in the dining room - apparently it looks too dead. I confess I already have a set of white resin antlers over the fireplace; but, one more deer-oriented item can't really hurt now, can it?

Oh well, to make myself feel better I ordered this little package of goodness. It's only a few inches high and in my view does not look dead, rather, it looks quite jolly :) ...and my granny circles are coming along nicely. I have almost 50 made - now I am learning how to put them together. And when that blanket is done it will take its rightful place in the family room.

Happy weekend all.

Those granny circles are sweet, Raina! The blanket is going to be beautiful. And speaking of beautiful--love the deep aqua blue of your walls. I have to admit I'm with your Babe on the whole antlers thing--I just can't do anything that looks or resembles anything dead...No matter how cute or clever that little felty deer head you got. :o7 LOL! Happy Weekend, my friend... Oh, and many thanks for the lovely comment left for hubby & I for our anniversary this week--so sweet of you. We're gearing up to take Charlie to the vet for his tooth tomorrow--confident all will be well. :o) ((HUGS))

Ha, mr earplugs likes the whole minimalist thing, mainly because he doesn't own much stuff. Unfortunately minimalism just doesn't happen in our house!
I think I'm with the babe on the antler thing but your crochet blanket must have pride of place - it's going to be gorgeous!

Considering I have 'Andy the antelope' on my living room wall, I probably have no room to talk (he is real, dead and stuffed...in my defense it wasn't my choice...it's the husband's obviously from back when he hunted large game WELL before he and I met). Go for your antlers/blue deer head if it makes you happy!

Look at all those happy circles!

Wonderful crochet! And I think an antler is a very manly thing to have in the house, I think you should try to convince your Babe about getting a real one :)

Hahaha -- you two are SO funny! I don't believe I've ever seen a flocked blue deer head -- too funny. And LOVE those granny squares -- the colors are beautiful!

LOL! Raina I think everything works if you love it! i'm crazy about mixing modern w/vintage - the thing I've learned re/my own home is that it EVOLVES - as we change our living spaces do and SHOULD reflect those shifts. I say go for it! And the crochet is heaven!

Well, maybe you can each have your way. How about your fake antler-headed-deer thing living on your dining room wall for 6 months of each year?

My dad is a hunter - grew up dirt poor on a farm in Minnesota during the Great Depression. Kids hunted to put food on the table. My mother is English and so not into hunting. But in their living room over the fireplace hangs a mounted Elk head that my Dad shot as a boy.

I love your flocked Deer head - great compromise!

Looking forward to seeing the blanket all done :)

Your tulips look so taut! Any tips on how to make them stand up? I just threw some away and I even tried the penny trick too!

What an adorable etsy find! I have to admit that I love the faux mounted-cervidae heads. I've seen so many different kinds over the last two-ish years.

Yours is definitely one of the dearest, no pun intended. :)
