weekend goodness

I was going to do some gardening, but today I woke up to two inches of snow covering the back yard. Perfect day to do some crochet and finish my school paper. Luckily I had taken some photos last week on the one good day we had. I took full advantage and planted my basil. All I can say is thank goodness for greenhouses because none of these plantings would survive this weekend. I am looking forward to some sun and warmth, but in the meantime I am reaping crochet goodness courtesy of mother nature.

I did brave the chill today and the reward was a fabulous vintage hand painted tray from my favorite second-hand store and some cute juice tumblers that are perfect for drinking yummy crisp white wine. The tumblers are sitting on top of my newly created doily. Never thought I would be the type to crochet doilies, but I found the colorful pattern in my Japanese crochet book and it is the only one I could figure out how to make.

Happy weekend :)

something new

I wanted a new bag and decided to crochet one.....I had to frog it four times. First the circle was too big and the bag was gigantic, so after 50 rows of crochet I frogged. Second time - still huge - after 40 rows I frogged. Third time was too small and the fourth time - I don't know what I was thinking. Finally something I am very happy with. Of course the cat immediately rubbed her hair all over it and won't leave the bag alone. I am not certain what attracts her to it. Here are the goods:

yarn - sublime cashmere silk aran and Debbie Bliss merino aran (don't think they make this any more)
hook - 3.75 cm
mods - I did 11 rounds for the circle on the bottom and then did 29 rounds for the remainder - in total 40 rounds

Now if I could just figure out how to read the patterns in my Japanese crochet book and make them work left handed!! Happy weekend all.

a finished object, can you believe it?

Just popping in very quickly. I started my Uni course and I am so busy with that and work. Horribly behind in reading everyone's blog. Any spare minute I have I am either running or crocheting. I finished something...yipeee!!!! Is that pillow not the most scrumptious thing or what! I am so excited about it. What a hit of color. Today the sun is shining and the snow decided to melt away and spring is here...I hope...for a bit. So my pillow had to go outside to share my morning coffee with me. What a fabulous thing to behold - coffee, a bright crochet pillow and sunshine. Life is so grand.

For you yarn lovers, the yarn is Sublime's cotton/soya blend. Beautiful, soft yarn - I love it. The pattern is here. Lucy's blog, Attic 24 is the best reference for simple, fun crochet goodness I have found. The flower came from some YouTube video that demonstrated how to crochet it - I have a blue flower on the other side of the pillow.

Happy weekend my friends.

mothers' day weekend

Hopefully your eyeballs are coping with the burst of color in this space this week. Since I am a mother, I gave myself permission to post three photos rather than two. This little marinade of hues invaded my home this weekend because quite frankly it has been snowing and freezing most of this week and only today the sun came out for five minutes. I decided to indulge my hippie soul and bought every color of the rainbow. I went all out to ensure that spring does make an appearance in this space - even if it is purchased and resides on my dining room table :)

I needed a break from my granny square blanket and decided one of my chairs absolutely requires a pillow similar to this one here. The instructions can be found at Attic 24 on the left hand side of the home page. I start Uni courses next week so I am bracing myself for all around stress and chaos. Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend - I am running the Mother's Day 10 km race tomorrow to celebrate motherhood and raise some much needed cash for the neonatal intensive care units here in Calgary.
