crochet in the garden

Well peeps, summer is officially here and that means long runs by the river, yarn work in the garden and lots of white, sparkly wine. I needed the wine today, in the last few weeks our dishwasher deceased, our washing machine set on fire and once the Babe pulled the dryer away form the wall, he pronounced that a fire hazard of the utmost kind......So needless to say, my bank account is looking sad. At least I am well stocked on yarn :)

I am working on a scrap yarn blanket, which basically means whatever bit of yarn is laying around, that is what I am using. I am also making circles for my granny square blanket. I have a 100 circles right now waiting to be crocheted in. I am about halfway through with the granny square blanket and I anticipate it will take another three or four months to complete it...total work of love.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone.

I have a feeling, that today was a good day

Finally, the sun decided to come out. Finally that miracle happened on a weekend and finally I was home to take full advantage of it. I got back from my business trip late last Wednesday and my parents arrived from the Island for a visit that same day. We had a flurry of visiting, shopping, going out for coffee and dessert...all those fun things we do when get together. However, Sunday was reserved for my garden and I got my flower pots all done.

I have to confess I cheated heavily - since we only have about 10 weeks of somewhat warmer weather left, I bought fully blooming annuals and just shoved them into my pots for instant gratification. We do not have much of a growing season, and with all the cold, snow and rain in the past month and a half, that growing season is even shorter. Hence, annuals are truly a godsend for climates like ours.  Everything changes when flowers invade the patio.

Only one full week of work and then I am four days a week for the rest of the summer :)

because cats are people too

So remember how I wrote a few weeks back that the cat goes crazy over my crochet? I decided that Tencents obviously felt left out of the whole hand-made goods thing and she needed a lovely blanket of her own. I had some left over cashmere blend yarn, merino yarn, cashmere-silk blend yarn and from these luscious odds and ends appeared this wonderful blanket. The cat went crazy the minute I put it down and proceeded to roll around and burrow in it like some mole on drugs or something.

The pattern is the ripple and I found it on Lucy's blog.  I have delivered this post to you from Ottawa as I am currently away on business. This is also my last week of school before my little 'school break'. I have time for few words so I am leaving you with extra photos of the ripple goodness.

beam me in scotty!

Lately writing my blog posts seems like I am 'beaming in' to my blog for a nanosecond and putting words to screen in between two breaths. I was in Montreal for work for the last four days, I have two, count them, two papers due by Monday, and I am off to Montreal/Ottawa next week (big breath here). After this weekend I have one more week of school left and then I get a three week break between classes. I - can't - wait!!!

I wanted to show you the doilies I crocheted last week - I love how they look like they are floating on air. Happy, colorful little stars gracing my coffee table. I will reiterate that I am most definitely NOT the doily type, however, I could not resist this colorful thin cotton yarn and this project was just right for it. Notice the hint of yellow in my photos - that is my way of pretending that we have sun.

Happy weekend everyone.
