frugal living II: flowers

I am quite certain that those of you who have been reading my blog for any length of time know that I love flowers. Here in Calgary, where the winter is long we only enjoy flowers outside for a very short time. Hence, I love buying flowers every week to cheer up my space.  That can be an expensive habit. Because all the flowers are shipped here from somewhere far away, they tend to be expensive. One can easily spend $35 or more for a bouquet of flowers. Of course, when tulips are in season, it's wonderful because for $5 I can certainly indulge.  So, to keep things reasonable, I have started buying flowering plants from my local greenhouse. The primroses above were $2.99 each and I have had them blooming here for three weeks now and I have a feeling they will be around for a few more weeks going by the number of buds ready to bloom.

I can't say that the socks I finished would qualify as frugal living. All you knitters out there certainly know how much yarn costs! But...they sure are happy socks and will soon be making their way to Vancouver Island to live with my mom.

Happy weekend all.
