"make juice not war" ~ Kris Carr
So work has been a little stressful this week; long hours coupled with way too much comfort food is bad for one's jeans so I decided to do a juice cleanse. I purchased Kris Carr's crazy sexy juice and smoothie e-book and so it's the perfect time to get going. Additionally, the babe is gone for a week so I can experiment with all kinds of new age remedies.
Juicing requires a good juicer - being my father's daughter I initially purchased a Breville dual-disc juicer a while back. It made lots of juice very quickly but the juice oxidizes quickly and after a day in the fridge, it looks disgusting. So I recently purchased a Hurom juicer, which is a slow, masticating juicer and makes delicious juice. I started my diet yesterday with a lovely green juice from Kris's book. All was well until the afternoon when my stomach felt like it would explode and the sounds coming from it were astonishing. I immediately made myself a kale salad with chicken. I know! Today I made another yummy green juice this morning and this afternoon graduated to a new recipe called Mexican ... something or other. Peeps, I took a sip and thought I would regurgitate my juice right out of my mouth. But, I am brave and I downed the concoction down. A half hour later I thought I was going to puke (sorry, TMI!). Peeps never, ever juice an entire bunch of cilantro as a newbie juicer and drink it. It is NOT a good thing! I settled my stomach with a turkey sausage (definitely not included on the cleanse). Sigh! Obviously this is not going well. Has anyone done this before? Any advice?
On the menu tonight - raw carrot ginger curried soup made in my vitamix? Can one's teeth fall out from not chewing? And is wine not just pressed grapes?

Hope you find the right balance for you. We've done juicing before but not as a complete detox, rather more as a supplement to a mostly raw or more health conscious diet. We tended to stick to the carrot base addition a little celery, beetroot and ginger for some.
Never done juicing but I love your tulip photo!!
I like chewing too much :-)
Kris Carr is amazing--I love her site! But cleanse are tough. I don't have a juicer, but I did try a juice/liquids cleanse a few times...it was not good. I like carrot juices boosted with extra--green, beet, ginger. I've tried a variety of cleanse, but usually end up modifying them in some way to suit my needs. It's great to cleanse and food good, lighter, etc. but not feel bad! I don't do week-long cleanses anymore, as I often don't feel well that way. But I do do 3-day weekend cleanses of adding more healthy liquids and teas to a reduced, select food diet--works for me. Find what works for you, modify what you need to to suit you and feel well. Let us know how it goes, Raina. :o) LOVE the tulips...*sigh*... ((HUGS))
Good luck coping with the stresses - you'll get this juicing stuff to work for you I'm sure. I'm the worlds most boring juicer - just carrot, apple and ginger - all the time!
Ok. I'm sorry, but I did chuckle while reading this. I hope it is going better today. You're a MUCH braver woman than I am. If all else fails, throw a cupcake in with all that kale and juice the heck out of it! ;-D
Good for you to do a juice cleanse this week ... you're braver than I am!
Love your sense of humor on this. I definitely think wine counts as juice. And it's fermented! Even better.
1-2 glasses of wine a day is very healthy! I also have a juicer but I think it is a lot of work! I haven't used it for quite some time. Beautiful tulips! I planted some in the fall for the first time! I really hope they will grow healthy soon (I'm in Canada so it will not be before a month I guess)!
If anything is an all-natural juice, wine is! ;)
I've never done the juice detox thing, but I have done other cleanse diets and honestly- it is so HARD! Especially when your body is detoxing, it can make you super queasy. The last cleansing diet I did was a whole five years ago- for forty days. However- it was super worth it. I had been sick with digestive issues for years and nothing ever helped like that! And I was more energetic.
I hope you're able to meet your goals with the juice.
ps- love the tulips. You sure make it LOOK like spring where you are! ;)
You are brave. Yes, wine is pressed grapes. It is a form of grape juice, right? You must be allowed a glass of wine.
We have a juicer but don't put it to much use anymore because it takes so long to clean up! Let us know how your detox goes. Love the shot of the tulips...

You are a brave woman even attempting this. I know that my stomach would kill me.. and I agree that wine is very healthy!
I love fruit juice but have never tried proper juices! I have a very basic juicer. I need to go and get some tulips as yours look so lovely!
At the start of the year, I tried a mild cleanse (food was still involved but only fruit and vegetables). I didn't have a juicer so made smoothies instead. 36 hours into it I felt like I had the flue, had a headache that was unbearable, was shakey, and couldn't concentrate on anything. I finally ate a healthy but 'normal' dinner that second day and within an hour I felt fine. My friend was doing it and felt fine for a week. Later I read that those things affect different people different ways. Now I am doing a once a week fast that lasts for 18-20 hours. Eat a light dinner early and then don't eat until lunch the next day. This is working very well and I'm finding I am energized and think clearly during this time. Good luck finding the solution that is right for you!
Have never done a juice cleanse, but am in awe of your efforts.
I love juices and self-made is always so much fun. I need to get myself a juicer again!! Hope you find a good balance for you my dear.
I have read every post to here - and have to comment! I just cannot do vegetable juices - no way. And it is definitely allowed to have a glass of wine - you only need one when fasting anyway!
