winterizing

When it started snowing on October 1, I thought it was just a temporary burp from mother nature...ha...not so. Winter is fully entrenched here. So I winterized; the hides came out and I bought a gazillion cookbooks from which, I suspect, I will never make a single thing. Do you do that? Buy cookbooks and then feel somewhat intimidated by the recipes. Here is what I purchased.

Crazy Sexy Kitchen by Kriss Carr (her blog is here)
Small Plates Sweet Treats by Aran Goyoaga (her blog is here)
The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone (her website is here)
Ani's 15-day Fat Blast by Ani Phyo (her website is here)
Smitten Kitchen by Deb Perelman (her blog is here)
What Katie Ate by Katie Quinn Davies (her blog is here)

Every single one of these is either a beautifully executed cookbook or has good-for-you recipes but many of the recipes seem so complicated and time consuming. I have decided to at least challenge myself to one recipe every couple of weeks that I might not normally make. We will see how that goes and of course, I will keep you posted.

Just a note about my kitty Tencents - I wrote a while back that she was sick and indeed we found out that she is in an advanced stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD).  Her infection is gone and right now I am transitioning her to a kidney-friendly diet, which will hopefully give her more time with us. The prognosis for cats her age is anywhere from six months to two years. Right now she is happy and not sick so we will make her life as high-quality as we can and continue to love her dearly.
