tarte a l'oignon

I was browsing the blogs and came across this recipe and decided to try it. I have never really made pastry dough and my first attempt was a disaster. The crust instructions as given in the recipe is just too much flour for the uber-dry climate of Calgary and the dough completely fell apart. However, I did find an all butter pie dough recipe from William-Sonoma that worked like a charm and was able to make this fabulous tarte a l'oignon. As the recipe says, you can use your favourite pastry recipe or even just purchase a pre-made shell and enjoy making this wonderful treat. I love Smitten Kitchen. Bought my sister the cookbook and really did not want to give it away!

I have to say my pastry turned out super-yummy and the William-Sonoma recipe will become a stand-by for me. Now I am all excited to try a lemon tart!

Happy week peeps!

I would definitely try the lemon tart since you gave the onion tart a go. Sounds so yummy!!

Oooh, that looks yummy! And interesting, we've always sort of made fun of our mom 'cause she says "onion" with a "g" in there somewhere -- maybe she was french in another life LOL!

DELICIOUS...both the tart and the tulips! Thank you for the recipe link and tweak-advice, Raina. Just now surfacing after 2 weeks+ I've been down with flu & migraines--slowly mending. Fist chance I've had to post and visit friends. :o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

I came here from 'the gardeners cottage' by happenstance. Your posts are so thought-provoking and calming. I will revisit soon. You helped me today.

You and I have similar taste in food - diets and tarts! When we were in France last Summer we discovered organic pre-rolled round pastry - just pop in the quiche tin and you're away.

Here's the recipe - you need a day of fasting after eating this one.
