the lull

After Christmas a quiet settles until New Year's eve. It's that in-between moment - for me it's vacation -  and I try to make every minute into two because once New Year day happens, I go back to work and life resumes its unending routines and of course…reality sets in again until summer. Holidays always throw me for a spin. There is a feeling of empowerment when I am home, queen of my day, no one's demands to fulfill but my own! Sigh…maybe winning the lottery would not be a bad thing.

This is also the time when I contemplate the new year approaching and think about my resolutions. Yes … I am a resolution person. I LOVE resolutions; I wipe the slate clean of 'last year' and focus on the new. This year my list is tiny but important. Many people feel they cannot keep resolutions so they don't make any. I don't see it that way - I make resolutions so I can have a point of focus. I don't get too uptight about how perfectly I execute them. I just want that point of focus.

And yes, I am trying to eat something healthy each day though with constant dinners out, meeting friends for brunch and the snacks that mysteriously seem to appear around the house, it's impossible to normalize my diet. In the photo - boiled egg, avocado and tomato salad with a lemony dill vinaigrette.
