Well my cat likes digging in mulch, leaves and bare earth - but he does like space so I think the overplanting could help. They are very territorial so the only cats that will be allowed into your garden will be those tolerated by your cat. It makes them sneeze when they sniff for a scent. Water is the best deterent.
